Marco Foscarini, a cultured nobleman and distinguished man of letters, is elected doge. He will remain in office for only one year, due to a sudden death and will be the third to last doge of the Serenissima Republic.

Between the end of 1943 and the final stages of the Second World War, the right wing of the Foresteria was hit by mistake by a bomb launched by the Allied forces. The real target was probably the bridge over the Brenta canal, a strategic point connecting the two banks of the river.
