Yves Henri Donat Mathieu Saint Laurent was born in Oran, French Algeria, on August 1, 1936. In the family villa on the Mediterranean, he began designing clothes for his mother and sisters at an early age. When he came of age, he moved to Paris and met Christian Dior, for whom he would collaborate from 1954 to 1958. In January 1962, with the help of his colleague and life partner Pierre Bergé, he presented his first personal collection; greeted with great acclaim, it marked the beginning of the Saint Laurent era. His collections were inspired by history, art, literature and a great passion for theater. His style stands out for the vibrant tenacity and brazen courage that determined his success and importance not only in the world of fashion, but also in a deeper social paradigm. He died in Paris on June 1, 2008.
