Emilio Pucci’s career begins randomly in 1947: he is photographed by Harper’s Bazaar on the snows of Zermatt with a ski suit designed by him. This immediately brings him to notoriety and he is asked to create a winter clothing line to propose in New York. The patterned fabrics are immediately the distinctive feature of its collections. In 1949 he debuted at Capri with a sea collection created on the colors and atmospheres of the island, but it is the “fisherman” pants that are most popular. In 1954, thanks to the audacity of his fantasies, he won the Neiman Marcus Fashion Oscar. Famous will become his Sicilian collection of ’56, the one inspired by the Palio di Siena of ’57 and that dedicated to Botticelli of ’59. In 1971 he signed the NASA emblem for the Apollo 15 expedition, and also the uniforms for the hostesses and crew of Braniff International Airways, and in Italy the classic uniforms of the Urban Guards. He died in 1992, and his daughter Laudomia was left to look after his father’s legacy. In May 2000, the LVMH group acquired a majority stake in the house.
